Mortenson has worked on numerous renewable energy projects including installations of wind turbines and transmission infrastructure projects. The company built one of the largest solar energy plants in Minnesota consisting of 1,800 panels.
The family owned company, worth $3 billion, has grown its solar operation from just a few dozen employees to hundreds in just the last 3 years. With such explosive growth in the industry, as Mortenson moves into Minnesota, they have already completed over 700 solar energy projects across the United States.
Although there is vast opportunity for solar energy to grow in Minnesota, that expansion will not come without challenges. There is much need for more workers trained to install solar panels. Beyond that, there is a 30% investment tax credit in the state currently. However, that tax credit expires next year.
As the solar energy industry continues to across the United States, Minnesota joins the ranks of states taking initiative of working towards a more green and clear future.
