"The solar project is expected to be the largest in the Southern Hemisphere until a 141-megawatt First Solar project in Chile begins in late 2015, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. AGL and First Solar, the U.S. panel manufacturer, are also building a 53-megawatt solar plant in Broken Hill, west of Nyngan in New South Wales." (Bloomberg.com)
Once the Broken Hill pant is completed, the combined power of Nyngan and the new plant will have the capacity to fuel 50,000 homes in Australia. The two plants have a combined price tag of A$440 million.
By 2021, the country plans to be producing 85 times the solar energy it is currently.
