Many areas in South Africa receive roughly 2500 hours of sunshine a year - around 900 more hours on average than most areas of Southern England. Solar ovens are one way to take advantage of solar energy on a household level. These devices do not require the grid to function, and plans are underway to reduce their cost to $120 US for a single unit. The continued development of these and other products will certainly have an enormous impact on South Africa in years to come, both in terms of quality of life increases for those off the grid and in terms of the nation's environmental impact as a whole.
